Open File Data Solutions with GSWA
“GSWA (wamexgeochem.net.au) is another amazing step in getting the complex data in various formats available easily. This is extremely useful for companies like Platina who often look at various opportunities and have to assess them promptly, for this process the wamexgeochem platform comes in extremely handy. Even quick cross referencing current company data with wamexgeochem data helps in providing an additional satisfaction that no historical data is missed. FYI this page is on bookmarked list in my browser and I have a small list of bookmarks.”

Expedio is proud to collaborate with GSWA to deliver enhancements to their open file WAMEX Datasets.
Improvements to the open file data systems from GSWA are an important piece of their Geoscience Data Transformation Program, which will transform the way we store, manage and provide access to open source geological data in WA.
Enhanced WAMEX and Drillholes search sites
WAMEX Search (wamexsearch.net.au)
Text of company reports with search interface for the Western Australian Minerals Exploration Reports (WAMEX).
GSWA MDHDB (wamexgeochem.net.au)
Harmonised company surface and downhole geochemistry search and user friendly download from the state wide Minerals Drillhole and Geochemistry Database (MDHDB).
GSWA Minerals Drillholes Database is a valuable resource for minerals exploration in Western Australia.
The database contains more than 2.5 million drillholes and 7 million surface samples and is continually growing, as company data eventually becomes public with each bi-annual release.
The format was difficult to work with, either by ordering a thumb drive, restoring and custom query development of entire SQL back up, or by collating digital datasets from individual WAMEX reports.
- Import surface and downhole geochemistry data
- Cleanse and harmonise data, with GSWA input
- Create web application for user access to interrogate and download data by spatial feature and user input variables
- Error report highlights some data quality issues when working with legacy datasets
- Resulting datasets are pivoted, user friendly and ready to work with in 3D modelling or GIS packages
The WAMEX Geochem web platform is a powerful tool for people to easily interrogate and access the vast amount of drilling and geochemistry data from the Western Australian Minerals Drillhole Database. This can be done via any web browser without the need for specialist SQL skills or hosting infrastructure.
Making these datasets more accessible can result in reduced project risk, as explorers can build on previous landholders’ knowledge with less effort to authenticate results. This data assists exploration as well as environmental, education, engineering and planning activities and expands the knowledge base for all stakeholders.
